FROM THE OWNERS
You know, sometimes I sit down to write this blog, and I fear I don't have much to say. Then there are weekends like this one, where my cup runneth over!
First, we have our lobster special - ambitious and delicious! I don't even want to tell you how much preparation was involved with this one. Fresh lobsters, an elegant béchamel, and a light arugula salad...beware the ides of March? I don't think so. Try it with a glass or bottle of our Louis Jadot Chablis!
Speaking of the ides of March, we do have a delicious Caesar salad. But did you know that Caesar salad isn't named after Julius Caesar? It's actually named after an Italian chef named Caesar Cardini who lived in Tijuana, Mexico. On July 4, 1924, the legend goes, his restaurant was particularly busy, and he was running low on ingredients. So, he assembled what he had: lettuce stalks, olive oil, egg, croutons, Parmesan cheese and Worcestershire sauce. And here we are today - the Caesar salad is a staple all over the world.
What is an Italian tradition, especially here in South Louisiana, is Saint Joseph's Day - March 19th - which is coming up this Tuesday. A Catholic feast day in honor of St. Joseph, this day is particularly celebrated in America among the Sicilian population in New Orleans. (Fun fact: I recently discovered that I am 15% Sicilian from a genealogy test.) St. Joseph's Day is typically celebrated with a three-tiered altar representing the Holy Trinity, with various breads, lemons and dried fava beans. There are also confections called Zeppole di San Giuseppe, and we will be serving those this Tuesday, March 19, in honor of this special Italian day.
Lastly, we are so excited to share our new menus with you this weekend! They are sleek, redesigned, and a welcome departure from the laminated menus we have used since 2020. We can't wait for you to see our new and improved look which hearkens back to the pre-Covid, book-style menu days.
We'll see you when you get here!
